SENIOR ORCHESTRA
The Senior Orchestra is made up of about 50 players, including adults and children aged 11 upwards. A lot of the players have moved up through our own Training Orchestra and other classes, though new members are always welcome who have not attended the Centre before.
All orchestral and band instruments are catered for, and part of our rehearsals are split up so that the string and wind sections can practise separately. This allows us to also run a Wind Band and String Orchestra as separate groups, giving us greater variety in our concerts.
The orchestra has reached a very high standard during the last few years. The standard of playing required to join us varies depending on the instrument, but is at least Grade 3 in most cases. Anyone interested in joining us should speak to the conductors for detailed advice on standards and levels of difficulty.
We play a very wide variety of different styles of music, including the classics, pop, and music from films and TV. Every year, we present a number of formal and informal concerts at different venues. The orchestra is also involved in many events outside the Leeds area. Every few years, we have a major overseas trip; three of these have been to the town of Infiesto in Northern Spain. Several concerts were given in the area, both indoor and outdoor, by our String Ensemble, Wind Band and Recorder Consort, as well as the full orchestra. We also visit the Hereford area and North Yorkshire, where we have regular bookings to give concerts for disabled people, and also concerts raising money for the local churches. Our trips are very enjoyable for all, and there is plenty of time for socialising and sight-seeing as well as performing!
If you are interested in becoming involved with the Senior Orchestra, please speak to the conductors, Elaine Levene and Matthew Tiffany , any Saturday that we are open.

TRAINING ORCHESTRA
The Training Orchestra currently consists of about 30 players ranging in ability from beginners up to about Grade 3. All orchestra and band instruments are catered for, including recorders.
Many of the members attend our own tuition classes at NLMC. However, players who are new to the Centre are equally welcome.
No previous orchestral experience is needed as full instructions are given! We play a variety of music from classical to pop and even favourite pieces arranged specially for the orchestra. Much of the music has been specially arranged so that it can be played by musicians of all ages who are in the first few years of playing their instrument.
We have great fun in our rehearsals, and there are opportunities to learn about all the other different instruments, as well as the one which you play. You can even have a go at conducting the orchestra if you wish!
Movement between orchestras is possible during the year and members may play in more than one orchestra, learning different instruments. There are opportunities for playing in concerts both at the Music Centre and elsewhere.
We have sectional rehearsals from time to time to concentrate on improving wind, brass or string techniques.
It really is easy to join us, you don't need any experience, just your instrument and some enthusiasm. For anyone interested in playing percussion with us, we supply the instruments.
